The first phase covers 6,938 rural roads with a total length of 12,105 km at a cost of ₹8,716 crore. The programme, implemented by the Rural Works Department, aims at regular and systematic reconstruction, upgradation and renewal of rural roads. Administrative approval of ₹21,733 crore has been given for strengthening 14,087 rural roads (24,482 km) that have completed their five-year maintenance cycle. The CM asked officials to repair roads needing urgent work before the monsoon.
