The Belwa–Minapur Link Channel, Bihar's first river-linking project, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary at Belwa in Sheohar district on 19 July 2026. Built at a cost of ₹130.88 crore under the Bagmati–Burhi Gandak River Link scheme, the 68.80-km Belwa–Minapur channel runs from Belwa in Sheohar district's Piprahi block to Minapur in Muzaffarpur district and will divert surplus Bagmati water to the Burhi Gandak during floods. The Belwa–Minapur Link Channel is expected to reduce flood intensity in north Bihar and boost irrigation, farm output, fisheries and groundwater recharge.
