A two-day national workshop on strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), held by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs with the Odisha government, ended in Bhubaneswar on 8 July 2026 with the adoption of the Bhubaneswar Declaration.

The Bhubaneswar Declaration was adopted on 8 July 2026 in Bhubaneswar at the close of a two-day National Workshop on Strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs with the Government of Odisha. About 200 participants worked in four themes: TRIs as knowledge and cultural resource centres, research for tribal development, technology such as AI and GIS, and institutional strengthening. The declaration sets a national framework to turn TRIs into centres of excellence in research, cultural preservation and evidence-based policymaking. The ministry also gave Certificates of Appreciation to seven best-performing TRIs, including those of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Tripura, Maharashtra, Telangana, Jharkhand and Kerala's KIRTADS.
