On 27 November 2024 in New Delhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi launched the national campaign 'Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat' (Child Marriage Free India). She also inaugurated the Child Marriage Free Bharat Portal, where citizens can report child marriages, file complaints and find Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs). She noted that the sex ratio at birth improved from 918 in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24, and that under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, marriages of girls under 18 and boys under 21 are prohibited. The launch coincided with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day). Over 50 lakh people took part online in the pledge against child marriage.
