Security forces killed at least 16 Maoists in an encounter in forests under the Kerlapal police station area of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, on 29 March 2025, police told PTI. The gunfight began around 8 am after a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the CRPF set out the previous night on intelligence inputs. The Hindu and The Indian Express later reported 17 bodies, including 11 women, and said a Maoist involved in the 2013 Jhiram Ghati (Jheeram Valley) attack on Congress leaders was among those killed. Security personnel were injured but stable. Firearms including AK-47 and INSAS rifles, a rocket launcher and explosives were recovered.
