Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse announced at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi, on 2 March 2026 that a nationwide athletics league will be held at 250 locations on 8 March to mark International Women's Day. It is a joint effort of Khelo India, the Sports Authority of India and MY Bharat under the ASMITA programme, with events for under-13, 13–18 and 18+ age groups. ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) is part of Khelo India's gender-neutral mission and was started in 2021. More than 2,600 leagues have been held so far across 34 sports in over 550 districts, with over 3 lakh women taking part.
