Neeru Dhanda becomes first Indian woman to win Asian Games trap gold, with an Asian record; women's trap team takes silver

On 29 September 2026 at Aichi-Nagoya, Neeru Dhanda won the women's trap gold with an Asian record 28 out of 30 in the final, hours after winning team silver with Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat.

Summary

Neeru Dhanda hit 28 of 30 targets in the final, bettering the previous Asian record of 24, to finish ahead of China's Sun Yunong (26) and Kuwait's Hajar Abdulmalik (21). She is the first Indian woman to win an individual trap gold — and India's first individual medallist in women's trap — at the Asian Games, and the first Indian woman to win Asian Games gold in any shotgun event. The only earlier Indian trap gold at the Asiad was Randhir Singh's in 1978. Earlier the same day Neeru, Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat won silver in the women's trap team event.
