On 24 November 2024, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi returned to India after a five-day official visit to Nepal. During the visit, Nepal's President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred on him the Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army at Sheetal Niwas, Kathmandu. He met President Paudel, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Nepal's Defence Minister, and called on Nepali Army chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel. He laid a wreath at Bir Smarak, Tundikhel, lectured on 'The Changing Character of War' at the Army Command and Staff College, Shivapuri, and attended an ex-servicemen rally in Pokhara with Gorkha veterans. He invited the Nepali Army chief to visit India.
