On 14 October 2024, in India, the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) announced its first two initiatives: the Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant (PMECRG) for early career researchers, and the Mission for Advancement in High-Impact Areas - Electric Vehicle (MAHA-EV) Mission to build an R&D ecosystem for EV components, particularly battery cells, power electronics, machines and drives (PEMD) and charging infrastructure. ANRF's operationalisation began with the first Governing Board meeting on 10 September 2024, chaired by the Prime Minister as President of the Board. Professor Abhay Karandikar is ANRF CEO.
