The Anusandhan National Research Foundation, with ICMR and the Gates Foundation, launched the Maha MedTech Mission to fund home-grown medical technology.
Summary
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), working with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Gates Foundation, launched the Mission for Advancement in High-Impact Areas – Medical Technology (MAHA MedTech), as announced on 25 October 2025. It aims to speed up medical technology innovation, cut dependence on costly imports and widen access to affordable devices. Academic and R&D institutions, hospitals, startups, MSMEs and industry can apply. Projects get milestone-linked funding of ₹5–25 crore, and up to ₹50 crore in exceptional cases. It covers medical devices, in-vitro diagnostics, implants, assistive and surgical devices, and software-based solutions. Support also comes through Patent Mitra (IP), MedTech Mitra (regulatory help) and a Clinical Trial Network. Concept notes are open from 15 September to 7 November 2025 on the ANRF portal.
