He said the laboratory, built at a cost of ₹88 crore, will help West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Sikkim and all the states of the Northeast develop an evidence-based criminal justice system and will support the implementation of the three new criminal laws. He said the government is building a network of forensic laboratories through clusters of 3–4 states, and that since the new laws came in, charge sheets are being filed within 60 days in nearly 60% of cases. An awareness and training campaign on forensic science for investigating officers, prosecutors and courts is to begin in January 2026.
