On 27 October 2025 at Mazagon Dock, Mumbai, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated 'Deep Sea Fishing Vessels' under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), handing over two trawlers to be run on a cooperative basis so that profits reach fishermen rather than wage workers. He said 14 such trawlers will be provided initially, with more to follow, along with processing and chilling centres and export through a multistate export cooperative. Shah said India's total fish production rose from 102 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 to 195 lakh tonnes. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended.
