On 24 September 2026 Indian Railways approved a four-lane Road Over Bridge at Alkapuri in Vadodara Division of Western Railway at a cost of ₹166.5 crore, shared equally with the Gujarat Government.

Each side will contribute about ₹83.28 crore. The existing Alkapuri Road Under Bridge near Vadodara station, an east-west link between Alkapuri and Kalaghoda, has a vertical clearance of only about 3.0 metres, which restricts larger vehicles and floods during the monsoon.
