Akash Prime, the upgraded variant of the Akash Weapon System for the Indian Army, destroyed two aerial high-speed unmanned targets at high altitude in Ladakh on 16 July 2025, the Ministry of Defence said. The system is customised to operate above 4,500 metres and has an indigenously developed Radio Frequency seeker. The trials, conducted as part of the First of Production Model firing trials, were validated by Army Air Defence and DRDO with Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited and other industry partners. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh complimented the Army, DRDO and industry, and the ministry noted the achievement follows the performance of indigenous air defence systems during Operation Sindoor.
