Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar killed in Learjet 45 crash at Baramati

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and all others on board died on 28 January 2026 when a Learjet 45 (VT-SSK) of VSR Ventures crashed at Baramati on a Mumbai–Baramati flight.

Summary

On 28 January 2026 a Learjet 45 aircraft, registration VT-SSK, operated by the non-scheduled operator VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, met with an accident at Baramati while flying the Mumbai–Baramati sector. There were five people on board, including two crew members, and one of the passengers was Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The Civil Aviation Ministry said all occupants received fatal injuries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Pawar as a leader of the people with a strong grassroots connect. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla noted that Pawar had also served as a Member of the 10th Lok Sabha from Baramati and led obituary references in the House.
