Summary

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan took over as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy on 31 May 2026. He succeeded Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who retired after 41 years of service. Commissioned on 1 July 1987, he is a Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist and has commanded ships including the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. Before this he was Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
