On 6 November 2024, the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $200 million loan for the Uttarakhand Livability Improvement Project. It will improve transport, urban mobility, drainage and flood management in Haldwani, the state's economic hub, including 16 km of climate-resilient roads, an intelligent traffic management system, CNG buses and a pilot of electric buses. In Champawat, Kichha, Kotdwar and Vikasnagar it aims for 100% water service coverage with 1,024 km of climate-resilient pipelines and smart meters. The agreement was signed by DEA Joint Secretary Juhi Mukherjee and ADB India Country Director Mio Oka.
