India and Japan held their 8th Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo on 13 July 2026, co-chaired by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Japan's Vice Minister of Defence for International Affairs Kano Koji.

India and Japan held the 8th Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo on 13 July 2026, with the Indian side led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and the Japanese side by Vice Minister of Defence for International Affairs Kano Koji. Both sides reviewed military-to-military exchanges, maritime cooperation, exercises, capacity building and defence equipment and technology cooperation, and reaffirmed the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. The two sides discussed outcomes for forthcoming Ministerial visits, including the 2+2 meeting later in 2026, and reiterated their commitment to a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific.
