26 e-commerce platforms self-declare compliance with dark patterns guidelines

Twenty-six leading e-commerce platforms have submitted self-declarations confirming compliance with the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 2023, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said on 20 November 2025.

Summary

The 26 e-commerce platforms carried out internal or third-party self-audits and declared that they are free of dark patterns — deceptive or manipulative online design practices. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), which had directed companies to display their self-audit declarations on their websites, called the move exemplary and urged all other e-commerce platforms, service providers and app developers to follow. The declarations are also published on the CCPA website.
