UNESCO ne 27 September 2025 ko China ke Hangzhou mein Man and the Biosphere (MAB) International Coordinating Council ke 37th session mein Himachal Pradesh ke Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve ko World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR) mein shamil kiya. Us din jode gaye 26 naye sites mein Cold Desert bhi hai, aur ab network mein India ke 13 biosphere reserves hain. Lahaul–Spiti district mein 3,300 se 6,600 metre ki unchai par 7,770 sq km mein faila yeh reserve India ka pehla high-altitude cold desert biosphere reserve hai. Cold Desert mein Pin Valley National Park, Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary aur Chandratal shamil hain, aur snow leopard iski flagship species hai.
